Hiwot Ethiopia has been implementing Addressing Vulnerable Adolescents and Youth to Prevent New HIV and STI Transmission in Addis Ababa with the financial support of the AIDS HealthCare Foundation (AHF). The project targets in- and out-of-school youths so as to enhance their awareness and knowledge of HIV prevention. Training, peer group discussion, and material support are the major activities of the project. Hiwot, in partnership with Kokebe Tsibeh secondary school, Kechene Debrselam secondary school, and Yeka sub-city woreda 5 youth centre, provided a two-day’s life skills training for 30 male (14 female and 16 male) adolescents and youth groups. At the end of the training, the young people are compelled to take responsibility for imparting the knowledge they have gained to their peers through peer-to-peer discussion.
